Petroleum Safety Specialist (PSS) – Refinery Series

Course Overview

This course focuses on identifying common hazards and providing potential solutions to reduce incidents that could result in injuries or fatalities. It is intended for individuals with additional safety responsibilities, such as engineers, operators, foremen, safety committee members, supervisors, and managers. It is also an ideal starting point for those beginning their career as safety professionals in the petroleum industry. The time required to complete the course depends on your prior knowledge of workplace safety, but the average completion time is about 24 hours. You have up to six months to finish the course.

Course Modules

·        Distinguish between various refinery processes

·        Identify the key products generated during the refining process

·        Classify the main environmental issues associated with refinery operations

·        Identify and categorize hazardous waste

·        Learn and apply the key components of an emergency action plan

·        Recognize the different stages of an emergency management plan

·        Understand the responsibilities of both employers and employees under the Process Safety Management System

Course Assessment

At the end of the course, students will complete a detailed online exam. A minimum score of 80% is required to earn certification. Each exam allows for two attempts to pass.
